Karas Wines is a young, successful winery from Armenia that makes modern wines near the Armenian capital Yerevan> They use mainly international grape varieties. The winemaker is Argentinian.
Karas Wines started in 2003, after the owners had found the most suitable vineyards. In total, Karas has about 400 hectares of vineyards at 1,100 meters above sea level, with a volcanic soil that contains minerals, slate, clay and stone. Very suitable soil for making well structured wines. The vineyards are close to the Armenian capital Yerevan and the mountain Ararat.
The first wines of Karas were brought to market in 2010. They were made under the leadership of the Argentinian winemaker Gabriel Rogel from Mendoza. He is assisted by the famous wine consultant Michel Rolland.
Karas Wines has planted Chardonnay, Viognier and the indigenous Kangun for their white wines. For their red wines they work with international varieties such as Malbec, Tannat, Syrah, Merlot and Cabernet Franc.
