Tbilvino

Once, Tbilvino was the largest wine company in the Soviet Union. Much has changed since the fall of the Iron Curtain. In the early 90's by the entrepreneurial brothers Giorgi and Zura Margvelashvili bought the winery with the help from the World Bank. They had very different plans: to give the wines their typical Georgian identity back and to produce quality instead of quantity.

Significant scaling down, a major reorganization and major investments in the cellar were the result. The brothers waited until 1999 for their first harvest 'new style'. In order continuously improve the quality of the wines, Tbilvino took the help of winemakers from France, Australia and Italy. In 2006 this the effort were rewarded with the first important international medals.

Nowadays Tbilvino makes both modern wines and remarkably affordable orange ones. With these orange wines, Tbilvino wants to introduce to the world in an accessible way the special Unesco protected tradition of Georgian orange (or amber) wines.
